'There's no place like home and for me that's Australia. A rugged, distant, largely desert island encircled by wild oceans. As a people, we cluster around its vast saltwater edges where the land is more hospitable. Big skies, endless beaches, fragile reefs. Dolphins play and whales migrate. Bright and raucous birdlife abound. Lush rainforests, scribbly eucalyptus and scrubby tea tree; the delicate and disorderly Australian bush I love so much is like nowhere else on earth. My big country is my constant source of inspiration.
Saltwater Country is an evolving body of work. It currently features paintings inspired by my recent time spent in the incredible Noosa National Park on the Sunshine Coast of Queensland. Its coastal walk is a breath taking experience of secluded beaches and bays, where whales, dolphins and green sea turtles frolic close to shore. (See Tea Tree Bay, Noosa I and II). The remaining works followed a magical visit to Broome, a remote historical pearling town at the gateway to the stunning Kimberley region in Western Australia, with its dramatic and kaleidoscopic landscape.'
