About Michele Owen

Michele Owen is an Australian contemporary artist whose multi-disciplinary practice is embedded in her lifelong connection to the natural world. With a particular focus on the ‘felt’ landscape, her work explores how environments shape our emotional and mental states. After a lifetime spent living in small rural communities, this enduring interest has become a defining thread in her creative journey.

Her immersive approach involves working on location to capture the essence of the regional places she is drawn to visit. She is intrigued by the layers of ancient and contemporary history that intertwine in these spaces. These stories and energies feed into and shape her work. Her practice blends observation, emotional response, and sensory perception, which converge to inform her artistic vision

Primarily Michele works across painting and digital media and is currently deepening her practice while undertaking graduate studies in visual art at the Victorian College of the Arts. She works on site at locations that call to her, most recently the goldfields of Victoria and New South Wales, creating resources that inform her studio work. Her intention is to develop creative works that invoke the spirit and experience of the regions she visits.

Her ongoing academic exploration complements her diverse education background, which spans design, writing, health, and dance. Michele has exhibited her work in Sydney and Melbourne, and her pieces are held in private collections across Australia and internationally. She has also been a member of the renowned Nillumbik Artists Open Studios program, contributing to the broader arts community with her unique perspective and commitment to exploring the intersections of nature, mental well-being, and creative expression. Michele lives and works on a small rural property at the edge of the Yarra Valley in Victoria. Her original artworks are available for purchase from gallery exhibitions, her studio and online stockroom.
